Doers & Dreamers Guide 2011

Hello everybody,

I am currently working on the Co-op ad pages for the 2011 edition of the Doers & Dreamers Guide. Deadlines are coming up and if you were in the Yarmouth & Acadian Shore Co-op section last year and want to advertise in the 2011 guide, please reserve your spot by signing the contract and sending it to me by September 17th.

As in past years, we have contracted Karen Hipson to design the page layout. She is also offering the same very reasonable pricing as last year for your ad design: $75 for creation of new ad, and $25 for minor revision to an existing ad. Please contact Karen directly at karen.hipson@gmail.com. Materials deadline is Oct 1.

For those of you who have already received the contract and price list, we are not charging any HST this year, so disregard that option on your contract form.

For those who are interested in advertising and/or have not received any documents from me please e-mail me to receive the co-op participant contract and/or the price list with dimensions.

If you have questions or need any help with anything regarding the Doers & Dreamers, please do not hesitate to drop me a line: (902) 742-8130.

Have a good and safe weekend everybody! Watch out for Earl!

Just a little note, that this Wednesday Gary Lewis, the Port Matilant Wharf demonstrator will be in Wedgeport to do his demonstration from 1:30 to 3:00. He has got plenty of stories to tell and would love to have some visitors.

Go enjoy this beautiful weather and why not learn a bit about fishing skills? :-)

Just a little note that the Mayor's Tea is this Friday the 27th of August from 1:30 - 3:30.

Thanks,

Rose

best of luck! :)

Hi Everyone,

This will be my last newsletter post, as I start my new job today and am officially no longer with YASTA. Starting today, Larry and Rose will be managing the newsletter together.

I just wanted to take the time to wish all of you the best of luck. I have greatly enjoyed the past four years working as a tourism development officer for Yarmouth & Acadian Shores. We have accomplished a lot, and there is still a lot to do. Just think, four years ago, Yarmouth & Acadian Shores didn't even exist. Today, we are an official travel region, with a growing marketing presence and new product in existence and under development. If the past four years are any indication, the next four years will also be awesome.

I hope to run into all of you from time to time. Rest assured, I will be watching tourism developments from the sidelines, and will be cheering on all of your victories.

Have a great week, and don't forget to "Start Here for an Experience Shaped by the Sea!"

Living Wharves - Fishing skills demos... So far so good!

Hello everybody,

I just want to let you all know that I am extremely impressed with the interest our visitors have in the Living Wharves program. We have seen great numbers during its first two weeks... over 70 people have participated, so far, and I am hoping that it just keeps building up.

Last Thursday, I was able to participate at the demo at the wharf in Belliveau Cove. Jean-Paul Belliveau who is the demonstrator at this wharf was amazing. He definitely knows how to captivate an audience by making them laugh and getting them involved in everything that he was doing. A little boy, no older than the age of 5, was able to band a lobster and took home a piece of spliced rope... this is an experience that he will always remember and was able to do this in our great region of Yarmouth and Acadian Shores.

I am so excited for this project and can't wait to see the outcome throughout the next few weeks of summer.

Have a great day everybody!

Funding Confirmed - Musique del Baie and Savour the Local Sea

Picture: sorting lobster on board a local boat last spring.

Hi Everyone,

It has been officially announced that YASTA has received funding for a significant tourism project for our region.

Back in March 2010, YASTA requested funding to support two tourism projects: "Savour the Local Sea" and "Musique de la Baie."

"Savour the Local Sea" is designed to make the fishery more accessible as a tourism product. This includes activities such as skills demonstrations on local wharves, local recipe seafood cooking classes, wharf directional and interpretive signage, and addressing product accessibility. This project will also look at whether tours in local processing facilities are possible, looking for solutions to such issues as: staffing, insurance, and health and safety regulations. This is an exciting project for our region, and will address some well documented visitor needs.

"Musique de la Baie" is designed to make our local culture and music more accessible, both Acadian and English. This project will work with local musicians to build their repertoire, and help develop Yarmouth & Acadian Shores as a quality music destination.

On Friday, August 13th, the honourable Greg Kerr and honourable Graham Steele announced funding for this project. In total, YASTA has received $70,000 from ACOA, and $65,000 from Nova Scotia Tourism for this project. In addition, the local municipalities are contributing $37,000, in addition to the in-kind support supplied by YASTA.

YASTA is very excited to be working on this project. Over the next year, we will keep you up to date on developments as well as ways that you can be involved.

Have a great week everyone!
